The former First Lady, Mama Miria Obote has appealed to young leaders to emulate the good example of former Presidential Commissioner, Mzee Wacha Olwol.

Mama Miria, who is also the former President of Uganda People’s Congress party, made the call on Sunday during the send off of Wacha that took place at his ancestral home in Amach sub county, Erute South county, Lira district.

According to the former First Lady, Mzee Wacha served well in the civil service and automatically propelled his leadership career to titular Head of State.

“The Mzee we are burying today served as a civil servant with distinguished performance. He graduated to the position of becoming the Head of State,” Mama Miria said.

“I call upon the young people in the leadership of our land to emulate Mzee Wacha Olwol.”

Mzee Wacha Olwol served in the interim government of May to December 1980 together with two Justices Saulo Mwanga and Polycarp Namuconcho.

At the age of 94, Wacha died on the morning of May 2, 2017.

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda described Wacha as one of the “distinguished sons of this country who played a significant role in our nation’s history.”

Wacha was one of the country’s representatives who went to London in 1961 to negotiate for Independence from Britain.

He would later become a member of the three-man Presidential Commission that led the country following the removal of President Godfrey Binaisa from power in May 1980.
