President Yoweri Museveni has praised the late Wacha Olwol for his positive contribution to the country and described him as a person who was very kind and peaceful.
“For the 5 months I knew Mzee Olwol, I found out that he was a very kind and peaceful person. I am sure I would have worked very well with him had Amin not interrupted,” President Museveni told mourners.
The President made the remarks this Sunday afternoon at the burial of Joel Wacha at Banyu village in Amach Sub-County 12 kilometers along Lira–Soroti road in Lira district.
President Museveni, who recounted to mourners how after his university studies to work in the President’s Office, he met Mzee Olwol in 1970, added that the late Olwol gave a distinguished service to the country and asked all Ugandans to emulate that example.
He was glad to note that God had given Olwol long life and that he has passed on in a peaceful Uganda that is no longer at war.
“There is peace in Uganda. No Karimojong are disturbing people. I think that is a big achievement. God has blessed him with 93 years. Dying is a destination for all of us but the important thing is to learn the example,” he said.
Regarding development, the President further pointed out that Amach Sub-County is now connected to Soroti and Mbale and beyond by a good tarmac road that will be expanded to handle heavy vehicles.
He, however, regretted having not fulfilled the request by the late Olwal to meet him, but directed the Ministry of Public Service to ensure that all entitlements for the work the late Olwol did as President are paid expeditiously to the family.
The late Olwal who was former Presidential Commissioner, served in Government for a very long time in various capacities.
Earlier on arrival, President Museveni laid a wreath on the casket of the late Olwol and later proceeded with mourners to the burial site where a three-gun salute was accorded to the late Olwol.
