President Yoweri Museveni who is also the National Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has urged NRM supporters in Kamuli to vote for candidates with good ideas but not the looks, religion, tribe or skin color, among others.

The President was addressing NRM supporters today as he campaigned for the NRM’s flag bearer, Hajat Rehema Watongola at Kamuli district headquarters in Kamuli Municipality Parliamentary by-elections.

The by-election followed the nullification of Rehema Watongola’s 2016 victory on the premise of lack of academic qualifications by the Court of Appeal.

In a petition filed by FDC’s Salaamu Musumba, court heard that Watongola did not possess the required minimum qualification to contest for a parliamentary seat.

The President urged the people of Kamuli to vote for the NRM flag-bearer, Hajati Watongola, because of the peace, development, wealth creation programme and health facilities that the Government has availed to the people of Uganda in general particular and Kamuli in particular.

He informed them that it is only the National Resistance Movement that has managed to bring peace back to Uganda.

“Uganda was ungovernable before 1986. The NRM will not allow anyone who wants to disrupt this peace. Hajati Wetongola is on a peace ticket and so you should vote her as NRM Kamuli Municipal MP,” he said.

He said that NRM has worked on developmental projects like schools, hospitals, roads, electricity in and around Kamuli district. He, therefore, urged them to monitor the services in all those hospitals and schools.

“Roads have been built such as the Jinja-Kamuli road which is tarmac using our own money. A ferry was built to ease transport through Mbulamuti-Kayunga to Mukono among others developmental projects,” he noted.

The NRM flag bearer, Hajat Rehema Watongola, thanked President Museveni for gracing her campaign and asked NRM voters to go out in big numbers and vote for her come 12 on Wednesday 12th April 2017.

Earlier, President Museveni told another rally at Buterimire Primary School grounds in the Northern and Southern Divisions of Kamuli Municipality that the people of Busoga Sub-Region should continue embracing and promoting the Government programme, Operation Wealth Creation because its implements are provided free.

Five candidates are contesting for the Kamuli Municipality Parliamentary seat. They are the immediate incumbent, Rehema Watongola of NRM, FDC leaning Proscovia Salaamu Musumba, as well as Samuel Walujjo, Michael Kiboome and Prossy Naikoba Kanakutanda who are all independent.
