Uganda Police have laughed at opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye’s claims of beating security at his Kasangati residence to attend functions outside Kampala.
Besigye on Sunday traveled to Irimbi, Maziba in Namutumba district to attend Duwa prayers for Yasini Isiko who brutally murdered in Lugazi on Sept 7.
Besigye used his official Twitter handle to scoff at the law enforcement body: “Today, I was able to attend church service and go upcountry in spite of Police.”
However, addressing the media in Kampala on Monday morning, Police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Kaweesi said Besigye “is not under siege but precautionary measure against breach of peace.”
Kaweesi pointed out that, “Even when Besigye claims having beaten our security; it’s part of our plans to let him go.”
The police officer said police only limit Besigye’s movements “when we know he is to engage in criminal activities.”
Besigye maintains that restricting him from traveling to any place of his choice violates his freedom of movement.
But the law enforcement body says the former presidential candidate is determined to continue mobilising masses to destabilize the country.
“We will continue limiting his movements when we get information that he is to engage in illegal activities,” said Kaweesi.
