
A roadside power transformer caught fire on Sunday morning in Nakawa Township and gravely injured one person.
The injured, only identified as Farouk was rushed to the new Naguru Hospital with serious burns.
The transformer exploded at about 7:30 in the morning, minutes after it was rammed into by a taxi and it started leaking fuel.
People rushed there with containers to tap the leaking fuel, until it was almost emptied.
However, Farouk who is also a taxi driver came in later and also tried to tap the dripping fuel, against the warning of his colleagues.
The transformer exploded into flames at once, leaving him with major burns.
The flames were put out and the casualty rushed to hospital.
