Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has Monday threatened to sue Government, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Kenya Airways over alleged kidnap of the party’s 2016 presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye upon his return from US.
Upon landing at Entebbe Airport last month, Dr. Besigye was whisked away by police to his home in Kasangati without allowing him access to his supporters who had turned up in big numbers to accord him an honorable welcome.
Besigye condemned the action and accused Civil Aviation Authority’s officers whom he alleged that they carried out the operation on behalf of Police.
This was however cleared by the Police Public Relations Officer, AIGP Felix Kaweesi who noted that it’s Police that carried out the operation under preventive arrest on learning that Besigye was set to distablize the City Centre.
“We are going to sue CAA, Kenya Airways, Government, police and any other party that was involved in the kidnap of Dr. Besigye,” noted the party Deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija while addressing press on Monday.
“Our lawyers are working on paper work to put our house in order; every country is fighting terrorism and we cannot allow this kind of terrorism to continue in the Uganda.”
Kaija further accused police of holding Besigye hostage at his home without allowing him to freely exercise his God given freedom of movement.
Dr. Besigye was Monday morning barred from leaving his home in Kasangati by police officers who are currently guarding his home.
“We shall not allow this to continue, we are mobilizing Ugandans to defy this continued arrest of Dr. Besigye from his home.”
