
The Anticorruption Court in Kampala has remanded a Rwandese national to Luzira prison over smuggling ivory worth 10Billion shillings.
62 year old Emile Kayumba a resident of Kacyiru in Kigali Rwanda was arrested smuggling 832 pieces of Ivory in 2013 which he was caught loading from the home of a Chinese national in Bugolobi, Kampala district.
Kayumba is facing two counts including acquiring restricted goods which is against the East African Community Customs management Act and attempting to export animal species without a valid license contrary to the Wildlife Act.
The presiding grade one magistrate Patricia Amoko declined to release Kayumba on bail saying that he has a bad record when he absconded his earlier bail and fled the country to DRC only to be recently rearrested after issuing an international arrest warrant.
Kayumba will re-appear again in court on the 25th/August .
