The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani has Friday issued criminal summons to former CPS DPC Aaron Baguma to answer to charges relating to the murder of Kampala businesswoman Donah Katushabe .
This followed a request by the Resident State Attorney Jonathan Mugwanya to amend the charge sheet in a bid to include Baguma on the file; before asking the chief magistrate to devise means to ensure he appears on the next court session.
In response, Karemani adjourned the case to August 18 and stressed that on this date, Baguma should appear in court.
“You are hereby commanded by the Uganda Government to appear in this court on 18th day of August 2016 or soon thereafter as case can be heard,” read part of the criminal summons signed by the Buganda Road court Chief Magistrate dated August 12th.
Early this week, the office of the DPP clarified that the murder case involving Baguma was moving according to plan adding they were not in a hurry to prosecute him.
“This is not an isolated case but such happens usually when we summon people we don’t know to be produced to court and it is what we go through every day,” the Deputy DPP Elem Ogwal told a news conference in Kampala.
He revealed, “We have written to police to prepare a charge sheet for Baguma to be brought to court. We will give them a time frame and if they don’t act, the State Attorney will present the charge sheet himself to the Magistrate who will then issue a criminal summon to have him arrested.”
Baguma is charged together with 7 others including Pine Car Bond proprietor Muhammad Ssebuwufu.
