EC Announces New Polling Dates for Eastern Youth MP

The Electoral Commission has Tuesday announced that the polls for the Eastern Youth Representative in Parliament will be held on March 23 and 24.

Members of the Electoral College who participate in the process will convene at YMCA conference and Training center in Jinja on March 23 for registration.

Elections for the Eastern region were postponed in February following a petition filed by one of the aspirants, Isma Mafabi whose name was missing on the ballot paper.

Mafabi accused the electoral body of  disenfranchising him and consequently court issued an injunction
ordering EC to halt the process until a resolution in reached.

The Electoral commission could not proceed with the election which was slated to take place tomorrow following an injunction that the court issued ordering a stay of the elections pending the resolution of the case.

According to the EC, eligible participants will possess introductory letters and documents, a national identity card, voter location slip and voters identity card.

In other regions, youth parliamentary elections were successfully completed. The Central region will be represented by Sarah Babirye Kityo, Northern region by Oscar Omwony while Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama will represent the Western region.

At national level, youths will be represented by former Makerere University Guild President, Adeke Anne Ebaju.

Youth parliamentary elections are conducted under the Electoral College system which constitutes of members of the district youth council in each region.
