Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has announced new screening measures that will involve interviewing contractors before handing them road projects.

The Authority on Friday strongly condemned the acts of some contractors who do not meet their standards and made a number of demands they must meet.

Samuel Muhozi, UNRA’s Director of Roads and Bridge Development stressed, “This is a new UNRA; the old one is no more.”

He was speaking at an engagement meeting between the Authority and its contractors on Friday at Silver Spring Hotel.

Muhozi noted that in this new season, all contractors will be required to perform as if they were working on the roads back in their home countries.

He revealed that the body will increase engagement with contractors and consultants to settle until the quality of roads improves.

“This will enable UNRA to be accountable to the public; the tax payers who dish out money every year to infrastructure development.

The UNRA Executive Director was this week on a tour on roads in various parts of the country but noted that the quality was not pleasing.

Since she took up her office, Mrs Kagina has committed to eliminate all corruption in the organization and to win back the public trust.
