The labor export business, being one of those badly hit by the Covid19 pandemic, is still reeling from the adverse impact.
With limited or no cash to work with, several of these companies are trying to come up with measures to prevent further losses.
These through their umbrella body of Uganda Association of External Recruitment Association (UAERA) have resolved to suspend operations from Friday until when the situation normalizes.
According to Baker Akantambira, the Chairperson of UAERA, many companies have been unable to pay workers’ salaries and other operation fees since this business was suspended alongside others in March 2020 when Uganda registered the first case of covid19.
“The general public is advised that following closure of labor companies the public should consult Ministry of Gender and Social Development on issues pertaining externalization of migrant workers.” Akantambira said
In a recent press statement from Ministry of Gender, the Permanent Secretary revealed that they had written to Ministry of Health for advise on how the labor externalization business can be opened up in observance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
More than 165000 Ugandans are employed in Middle East through this program.
