Just In: Civil Pressure Reopens Entebbe Road

Authorities have Monday morning reopened the Kampala Entebbe Highway which was closed over the weekend for security purposes.

The development was confirmed by a source inside Uganda Police who anonymously spoke to Chimpreports.

The Road which is the only link between the capital Kampala and the country’s only international airport was closed following the arrival of the South Korean President H.E Part Geun – hye.

Entebbe road was according to Police cut off for the security of the top notch visitors from the Far East.

Motorists were advised to use the unfinished Southern Bypass, also known as the Entebbe Express High Way and other available routes to and from Kampala.

Upon the announcement, social media went abuzz with rants about the decision which many deemed as demeaning and costly to people’s businesses.

Pictures emerged of travelers walking on foot to and from the airport as Entebbe road remained traffic-free through Sunday.

“We should be ashamed that we have one narrow road servicing the one international airport. Government should be embarrassed by its lack of ambition,” went some of the rants.

Our source however revealed this morning that the Joint Operations Committee decided to review the Operational Orders especially the component of blockage of Entebbe road

By publication time traffic has started to flow normally on the high way.

Meanwhile some of the roads elsewhere in Kampala have Monday been closed as President Museveni takes his guest on a number of tour sites.

A one Miriam Muhanguzi told Chimpreports, “Here in Kyengera all roads have been closed; we cannot travel. The two Presidents we hear are opening up some factory in Mpigi.”
