The number of returnees testing positive for COVID-19 in Uganda is on the rise after 3 more tested positive for the infection on Sunday.
The 3 COVID-19 positive returnees have been confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Sunday from 12 new cases registered among COVID-19 samples tested on Saturday.
This week on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 11 COVID-19 cases from 91 Ugandan returnees who arrived into the country on Sunday from Afghanistan.
On Friday, 2 Indian returnees also tested positive for COVID-19 from a batch of repatriated nationals and non-national permit holding citizens.
Today Sunday, 3 more returnees have tested positive for COVID-19 from 12 new cases confirmed from samples tested on Saturday.
“Results from COVID-19 tests done on 4th July 2020 confirm 12 new COVID-19 cases. The cumulative total confirmed COVID-19 cases of Ugandans is now 939,” the Health Ministry announced.
The new cases include 2 truck drivers from Malaba and Mutukula border points, 7 contacts from Amuru and 3 returnees.
One of the returnees came from South Africa while the rest 2 came from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
11 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 were denied entry into the country as per the presidential directive.
A total of 1,240 samples from points of entry were tested for COVID-19 on Saturday while 863 samples were among contacts and alerts to previously confirmed cases.
Currently, Uganda has a total 939 cumulative total confirmed COVID-19 cases with 891 recoveries and no fatalities.
However, the 891 recoveries include both Ugandans and foreigners.
The active COVID-19 cases on admission are now 197, of whom 167 are Ugandans, 25 foreigners and 5 refugees.
It should be noted that the current COVID-19 positive foreigners are not included in the cumulative total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda.
