Rotary Launches Wellness  Campaign

Rotary district 9211 on Saturday launched a fitness and nutrition campaign  at Speak Resort Munyonyo  to promote  good health and wellness among citizens.

Rotary district 9211Governor, Damba Rosset said at the launch that the fitness and nutrition campaign is meant to increase the productivity and longevity of the people in Uganda and Tanzania.

She also commended President Yoweri Museven’s effort in the fight against Covid19  which she said has contributed to the good health of Ugandans.

“We are coming out as Rotarians to make a contribution  towards  the well being of our society through  the fitness and nutrition campaign  which will benefit the population in longevity, wellness of both physical and mental status,” she said.

She added that Rotary has always and will continue to provide solutions to health challenges that are likely to kill people prematurely.

The guest of honor, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng represented by the head of non-communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Gerald Mutungi  thanked Rotary for partnering and contributing towards Government  initiatives such as the Health and Wellness  campaign.

” I want to thank Rotary for inviting us and for partnering with Government  to run something  good like this, ”  said Dr. Mutungi on behalf of Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng.

Mutungi added that many people’s lives are endangered by five risk factors including physical inactivity, stress, tobacco smoking and alcoholism, excess sugar and red meat. He said these expose humans to Cardiovascular diseases and cancers that eventually kill them before the age of 70.

In the discussion panel chaired by Gorret Masadde, a food scientist and president of Rotary  club of lake view Kisugu,  Dr. Ronnah  kezabu Baingana a nutrition scientist emphasized the eating of nutritious  food rich in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and mineral  which helps in repairing and building  of the body.

The event that opened with aerobics and dance moves  led by coach Geraldine attracted Rotarians and rotaractors from various  Rotary clubs in Uganda and Tanzania. Many followed the event through zoom due to restrictions caused by COVID-19.
