The Ministry of Health has on Friday confirmed 9 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda bringing the total number of infections in the country to 911.
The Director General Health Services in the Ministry of Health Dr Henry Mwebesa announced that the new cases were confirmed from 3,349 samples tested for COVID-19 on Thursday.
“The Ministry of Health confirms 9 new COVID-19 cases from 3,349 samples tested. The cumulative confirmed cases of Uganda is now 911,” Dr Mwebesa announced.
He how announced that of the 9 new COVID-19 confirmed cases, 2 are Indians who arrived in Uganda from Mumbai, India on 1st July 2020.
“Two are Indians, resident in Uganda who returned on 1st July 2020 from Mumbai, India and were under quarantine at the time of test,” announced Dr Mwebesa.
Currently, Uganda is repatriating its nationals who are stranded abroad due to COVID-19 lockdown.
Meanwhile, the other cases confirmed include 4 truck drivers and 3 contacts and alerts to previously confirmed cases.
Of the 4 truck drivers, 2 arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 1 arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula border and 1 arrived from South Sudan via Elegu border point.
Regarding cases of contacts and alerts, 2 are from Amuru and 1 is from Kyotera district.
Meanwhile, 11 foreign truck drivers (10 Kenyans and 1 Tanzanian) tested positive for COVID-19 and were denied entry into Uganda as per the presidential directive.
Currently, there are 197 COVID-19 active cases on admission, of whom 172 are Ugandans, 6 refugees and 19 foreigners.
The COVID-19 recoveries have increased to 849. However, these include both Ugandans and foreigners.
It is important to note that foreigners and refugees admitted in Uganda’s hospitals are not captured in Uganda’s cumulative COVID-19 confirmed cases.
A total of 3,349 tests carried out on Thursday brought the cumulative total number of COVID-19 samples so far tested in Uganda to 200,179.
Currently, Uganda had a total of 911 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 197 active cases on admission, 849 recoveries and no fatalities.
