Kirungi Police Post in Mubende town, Mubende district is facing closure over nonpayment of rent.

The landlady Ms Jane Nabakooza says the rent arrears stretch over two years.

Kirungi Police Post was installed in 2014 to deal with murder cases which were on the rise then in the South Division of Mubende municipality.

However, the land lady says the police have adamantly refused to pay her rent.

Ms Nabakooza says she has at times been forced to pay water bills for the police post, and that her efforts to engage the District Police Commander have been fruitless.

“Police hasn’t been paying me. They pay you Shs100, 000 today, the other month they pay Shs 500,000 which isn’t okay. I summed up all the unpaid dues which totalled to about Shs 2.5 million” Nabakooza said.

Our reporter’s efforts to get a comment from the Mubende District Police Commander Julius Ahimbisibwe were futile as he didn’t pick our calls.

However, the Mubende Resident District Commissioner Mary Nyakwera Baguma says she has started investigating the case.

The Gomborora Internal security officer-GISO for Mubende Municipality Nkangi Mathias also revealed that efforts are underway to fundraise rental fees from locals and area politicians.
