The Inspector General of Police General Edward Kale Kayihura has appointed a new head of Police’s Criminal Intelligence Investigations for Kigezi Region.

DSP Joseph Sentamu was appointed the CCID boss yesterday, replacing Suleiman Kabuye who was in March 2016 suspended over misuse of office.

Kabuye was suspended by the IGP and an investigation launched into alleged mismanagement of his office.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesman confirmed the appointment of Sentamu. He also told us that the IGP appointed DSP Ronald Magezi as the region’s officer in charge of legal affairs and human rights.

Kabuye was suspended after he arrested two women Hope Kaito and Jolly Bagarukayo on allegations that they had a hand in the death of Joan Gisagara, the Kabale Municipality NRM Women’s League Chairperson in February. He detained the duo, accusing them of poisoning the deceased.

The relatives of the arrested petitioned the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and raised the concern that the Kabuye was overstepping his authority and that he had interest in the case, having been a lover of the deceased.
