Dr Pius Ruhemurana the Mayor Kabale Municipality has quit elective politics after losing the seat to the Kabale Municipality central division LC3 Chairman Emmanuel Byamugisha Sentaro.

Dr Ruhemurana who is the Kabale district FDC vice chairperson has been mayor since 1998, but lost this position in the last elections to an FDC leaning independent candidate Byamugisha.

On Tuesday, Dr Ruhemurana handed over his office to Charles Magumba the Kabale Municipality Town Clerk.

At the function, Dr Ruhemurana thanked the people of Kabale Municipality for the trust they put in him to steer the municipality for the last three terms.

He revealed that he would now focus on his medical profession at his clinic in Kabale town.

Meanwhile at the function, the outgoing mayor condemned local leaders who are blocking the two sub counties of Bubaare and Nyamweru from joining Kabale district.

The two are part of the newly created Rubanda district who however, want to break away and remain part of Kabale district.

He argued that the fact that Kabale Municipality is in the process of being elevated to city status, it needs to be expanded.

Dr Ruhemurana wished the incoming mayor a good term and advised him to work coherently with the three groups that is, the politicians, civil servants and the people to take Kabale forward.

Sentaro Byamugisha the incoming mayor will be sworn in on 23rd May 2016 at the Kabale Municipal Grounds, becoming the fourth mayor of Kabale after Kaka Matama, Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda the outspoken Kitanga parish priest and Ruhemurana.
