President Yoweri Museveni is taking oath today Thursday May 12th, to steer the nation for another five years.
This will be Museveni’s 6th oath since 1986 when a 5 year armed struggle successfully ushered him into the country’s topmost office.
Like in all the last five elections, last February’s which he won with slightly over 60% of the vote is being angrily contested by opposition contenders who allege vote theft.
One of the contestants Col Dr Kizza Besigye was arrested in Kampala City yesterday and reportedly airlifted to the north eastern district of Moroto so as not to antagonize today’s function.
Business in the capital remained senile through Wednesday, with most shops closed as heavily security personnel combed all corners.
At the Kololo Independence Grounds where up to 12 heads of State are expected to attend, Museveni will be sworn in by the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe.
Strict precautionary measures have been taken including to full closure of the Kampala-Entebbe High Way to avoid such incidents at 2011 when one of the heads of State was attacked by protesting opposition party supporters.
President Yoweri Museveni faces perhaps his most challenging term, in which his long undertaken ambition to transform Uganda into a middle income economy before the year 2020 has to be realized, despite unpleasant World Bank projections.
