Armed military men have commenced what an official described as a “comprehensive search” of activist Frank Gashumba’s premises in Kampala.
Gashumba was on Monday night detained at the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.
Army spokesperson, Brigadier Richard Karemire confirmed that Gashumba was being held for reportedly impersonating a Defence Ministry official to obtain money by false pretence.
ChimpReports understands CMI operative raided Gashumba’s plush home in Bunga where the search is being carried out.
Gashumba’s daughter assured us that the operatives arrived at their home with her father.
“He (Gashumba) is home with over 10 people holding guns,” said Sheila.
“They are just standing outside in the compound. For over 20 minutes now,” she added.
The development has raised concerns the military intelligence docket is taking up roles previously executed by police.
Gashumba is a fiery critic of president Museveni.
He, however, has been in the media for wrong reasons including diddling foreigners- allegations he denies.
The controversial businessman founded an organisation labeled ‘Sisimuka Uganda’ which he said aimed at “Changing Mindsets” and “Creating Self Belief.”
