Police has interrogated the Editor of The New Vision for publishing a story that has purportedly disturbed the peace and privacy of General Kale Kayihura.
According to a summons letter issued by SP Okecho Isaac for Director Criminal Investigations, the editor in charge of Saturday Vision was questioned on Monday at 3:00pm over a story published claiming the IGP’s security has been beefed.
“Enquiries are being conducted under the above quoted reference (invitation for interview vides CID Headquarters) whereby you allegedly published an article titled ‘Kayihura Security Beefed up’ in The New Vision issue VOL. 11 No. 42 of Saturday 28th October 2017 at front page and page 3 with intent to disturb or attempts to disturb the peace, quiet, or right of privacy of Gen. Kale Kayihura,” part of the summon stated.
The summons sent through the Vision Group CEO, Robert Kabushenga, based on Section 27A of the Police Act which gives the force the mandate.
On Sunday early morning at 01:09am Gen. Kayihura responded to the same story which he described as false.
“I have restrained myself from responding to what is trending on social media and some sections of the print and online media relating to the Uganda Police, and myself. However I’m compelled to respond to one story full of falsehoods,” he said in a statement.
Kayihura has been in the news since the arrest and charging of his trusted officers by the army.
He maintained that he is guarded by police and not the army as was alleged in the story.
“This is to inform the public that the story is false. I have not changed my security detail as reported. I’m guarded by police not the army.”
The IGP also stressed that the persons behind the story had “sinister motives”
“”There is no question that whoever is behind these stories is motivated by malice with sinister motives.”
