Ayivu County Member of Parliament Hon Bernard Atiku is seeking the intervention of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in his 10 year rancour with Hon Ibrahim Abiriga, who represents Arua Municipality.

The two MPs, who come from the same West Nile Region have not been at the best of terms for more than a decade.

Hon Atiku, an FDC MP, also believes Abiriga abhors him because he doesn’t support the removal of presidential term limit from the constitution.

Yesterday, their misunderstandings, according to Hon Atiku, climaxed in a physical fight at Parliament.

Atiku says ever since he was a district Councillor in Arua, at which time Abiriga was the RDC, they didn’t look eye to eye.

At one point, Atiku says, Col Abiriga pulled an AK 47 on him and near shot him.

“I would be dead by now,” he told NBS TV on Wednesday. “I have tolerated this fool for a long time. I thought it was good that I discipline him in the language that he understands.”

Following yesterday’s fight, Police have opened up a case against two MPs. They are expected today to make their statements, as well as those who witnessed the brawl.

Atiku apologized for the unfortunate incident but said if Abiriga was to continue with his behavior, something worse was bound to happen.

Abiriga blames the Ayivu MP of paying some youths to insult him during a recent football match in Kampala.

But Atiku denies these accusations, saying he wasn’t even in the capital during the incident.

Atiku says he is now forwarding the matter to the Speaker of Parliament to reign in on the flashy Arua MP.

“As chairperson of the West Nile Parliamentary Caucus, who has even tried to mediate between him and his former  area MP (Gabriel Ajedra), I have tried and failed,” Atiku said.

“What I am recommending now is to take this to the speaker and explain what happened so that she can reign in on Abiriga.”

“Otherwise he is a nuisance to this parliament. The way he behaves, the way he dresses; nothing about him is parliamentary.”

From the speaker’s office, Atiku says he plans to take the matter back home, and present in before the West Nile elders and senior citizens.
