Three people in Kisoro district have been confirmed dead and several gardens and houses destroyed in the heavy rainfall that pounded the district on Wednesday evening.
James Hatang’Imana the LC1 Chairperson of Mburabuturo village in Nyakabande Sub County says the rain went on for about two hours but left a large trail of destruction.
Two children of a family, identified only as Confidence and Flavia were washed away by the floods, he said, and so far one body had been found by Thursday morning.
Abel Bizimana the Kisoro LC5 chairman revealed that in Bukimbiri Sub County in Bufumbira North, one person, an unidentified woman was killed in the floods.
The chairman also revealed that one Gerald Twinomugisha and his two children are currently admitted at Mutolere hospital with injuries from the rain.
Rose Kabagyenyi the Kisoro woman MP is appealing to government to come in with help to those who lost their homes, farms and livestock.
“We are asking the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness to help these who are now homeless after their houses were washed away,” she said.
