Members of Parliament from the Buganda Region have declared Monday morning, that they will be voting as a unit for incumbent Speaker of Parliament Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Kadaga is facing stiff competition from her deputy Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.
The Buganda region parliamentary caucus made the revelation after a meeting they held earlier in the morning, where they determined to vote ‘without division,’ for the Kamuli Woman MP to defend her Speakership.
The meeting was chaired by Hon. Benny Namugwanya Bugembe, the Mubende District Woman MP, who was reelected in the February elections.
She said they decided to support Kadaga because she is relentless and accommodating.
“We are many MPs in that house and we are all sent by our people to speak and legislate for them. When Kadaga is in her seat, she makes sure that all of us get a chance to speak. She never gets tired; she will listen to everyone,” said Namugwanya.
She added that Kadaga helps new MPs who often feel threatened by the new environment, and that she does this “like a mother.”
“You all know that in society there is always that group of people that enjoy teasing new comers; but Kadaga cannot allow that. She respects everyone and makes the new comers feel at home.”
The Kampala Central Member of Parliament Hon Mohammad Nsereko said that Buganda caucus resolution was unanimous and would be effected without division.
