Martyrs Day: Kabale Pilgrims Set Off for Namugongo

About 320 Christians from Kabale diocese on Sunday morning started their pilgrimage to Namugongo Shrine in Kampala ahead of the Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations on June 3.

The Christians set off from Rushoroza Catholic Cathedral at 7am yesterday after an early morning mass.

While addressing the pilgrims, Fr. David Byaruhanga, the charismatic coordinator for Kabale diocese asked them to use the mission to reflect on values of love and good Christianity.

“It is out of love for religion that the Martyrs died. As you join this year’s celebrations, promote that strong love for each other and true Christianity,” said Fr. Byaruhanga.

Peter Kabagambe, the pilgrims’ chairperson for Kabale diocese said they expect to arrive in Kampala on 31st May, 2017

They will have stopovers in Ntungamo, Itojo, Mbarara, Masaka and other places.

Kabagambe said that they are optimistic that through prayer and worship they shall successfully reach Namugongo.

Jerome Bananukye, one of the pilgrims, who is on this pilgrimage for the 7th time said he intends to use this year’s to pray for peace in the country.

“Our country is in a state of fear but with prayers God can restore peace and tranquillity. It is my mission for this year’s pilgrimage,” said Bananukye.

75 years old Topista Tibenderana, another pilgrim said she will pray for the hunger stricken areas in Uganda.
