
Police in Masaka have arrested Joseph Kabenge, 34, who is suspected to be the ring leader of the group that has been terrorizing Greater Masaka region for the past 6 months.
Police sources tell us Kabenge was arrested today after sending threatening letter to his mother-in-law.
“He was arrested from Kyotera after sending a threatening letter enclosed with a bullet to his mother in law, identified as Norah, a resident of Kimanya,” the police source told this website.
In the note, Kabenge is said to have threatened to kill his mother in law if she didn’t follow his orders.
“That gift I have sent you should be given the respect it deserves. Do whatever I tell you,” read in part the threatening note sent to Norah.
The police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye on Thursday visited the area and assured the residents that security agencies are soon getting on top of the problem of insecurity in the 8 districts of Greater Masaka.
“These are not rebels but rather small elements of thugs who want to create fear in you,” Kasingye told locals in Bukomansimbi.
The police spokesperson who apologised to the locals for the havoc caused by the thugs but reassure that such a small group of people should not stop them from going about their businesses.
He revealed that they had agreed to carry out joint patrols and intelligence gathering together with the UPDF in the area.
