Work came to a standstill at Café Javas, Victoria Mall in Entebbe after the restaurant’s ceiling collapsed.
The incident which happened on the evening of Wednesday April 5th created panic amongst the restaurant’s customers although according to the management, no one was injured.
Café Javas is one of Kampala’s top restaurants, attracting customers ranging from politicians, diplomats and the corporate class.
The restaurant’s Entebbe branch, according to a statement from management has since been closed to allow repairs.
Although cases of buildings collapsing in Kampala are not very common, the instances cause a lot of damage.
In 2016, the ceiling of Twed Plaza, the building that houses High Court Civil Division collapsed although no injuries were recorded.
According to Knight Frank Uganda, the company charged with management of Victoria Mall, thorough investigations are being undertaken to ascertain the cause of the incident.
