Mbarara Town Clerk Munono Baryantuma, who was recently implicated in multiple corruption allegations has been transferred by the Ministry of Local Government.
Munono’s transfer follows the Ministry’s meeting with Mbarara district councilors to investigate allegations that the Clerk illegally awarded a 5 year tender to the tax park operators, sold off municipality land and mismanaged public funds.
Munono was also accused of presenting 3 different budgets to the ministry of local government for Mbarara municipality.
The councilors had vowed never again to work with Munono, and many of them who spoke to reporters yesterday expressed relief with the Clerk’s transfer.
Others were disappointed that he was only transferred as they wanted him expelled from civil service.
Munono was replaced by the town clerk of Mbale Mr. Edward Lwanga and taken to Rukungiri Municipality.
Meanwhile, Edward Lwanga’s leadership in Mbale was also under intense scrutiny and according to reports from the east; he was on the verge of being thrown out of his official residence found at Plot 3A Masaba Gardens.
The Mbarara Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi said he is available to work with the new town clerk.
He told us. “I have just heard the news, although we haven’t seen official communication. But whoever comes in as replacement, for me I don’t deal with personalities; I only believe in service delivery and I will work with whoever they bring to me.”
