President Museveni has contributed Ugsh 82 million towards covering the hospital bills of former Anglican Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo who is currently hospitalized in the United Kingdom.
Nkoyoyo got health complications in November last year and his situation kept deteriorating until he was flown to London late in December.
He is currently admitted at the Kensington Hospital in London where he awaits a lung operation.
According to his family, the operation will require about Ugsh 260 million. They recently made a call to the Church of Uganda and other well-wishers to offer financial assistance for the medical bill.
Nkoyoyo fell ill in November last year and is going to require emergency surgery in London.
In a communication made by Don Wanyama, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary in a tweet on Thursday afternoon, he said; “H.E. Kaguta Museveni has made $23,000 contribution to settling Archbishop Nkoyooyo’s medical bills & wished him a quick recovery.”
Earlier on Thursday, journalists had asked the Prime Minister as to whether government had offered any assistance to the Retired Archbishop’s family to which he affirmed.
“Government is concerned about his sickness and it is working with the family to ensure he gets appropriate help. The President has made a contribution to his treatment. We wish him quick recovery,” Rugunda told the press during the launch of events to mark the 40th anniversary of Archbishop Janan Luwum’s martyrdom.
The Prime Minister added; “But it is in order to encourage friends and well-wishers to chip in because it is quite an expensive treatment.”
