Meet The New Army Spokesperson Brig Karemire

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Brig. Richard Karemire to replace Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda as the army spokesperson in the latest reshuffles.

Col Paddy Ankunda who in the past, served as the spokesperson of the Africa Mission In Somali (AMISOM) and also the publicist of the DRC-M23 peace talks in Kampala, replaced Col Felix Kilayigye as the spokesperson in 2014.

The incoming army mouthpiece Brig Karemire boasts of a wealth of formal and military training including a Masters degree in strategic studies.

The 54 year old, was born in the western Mbarara district and joined the national army in 1985.

Over the years, Brig Karemire has undergone numerous military training courses in Uganda, Libya, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Sweden, Tanzania, USA and Zambia.

He served as the Deputy Liaison Officer in the UN Mission in Rwanda, and was appointed head of External Intelligence and later Director of Counter Intelligence at CMI.

He has also worked in different capacities at the Ugandan Embassy in Sudan and the US combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa – Djibouti.

Before rising to the Rank of Brigadier in 2015, Karemire received a number of Military Awards that include among others, the Luwero Triangle Medal, the US Joint Service Commendation Medal, Jubilee Independence  Medal and UN Peace Medal.
