Winnie Karagwa Byanyima is considering running for President.
Executive Director Oxfam International and former Mbarara Municipality MP, says she has no doubt in her mind about her abilities to run this country.
Byanyima made the unprecedented revelation while speaking on the sidelines of the 21st anniversary of Forum for Women in Democracy {FOWODE] at Kampala Serena Hotel last week .
“I now know that I can do it, absolutely, I have no question in my mind that I have the ability or even the power to change our country,” said Byanyima.
She reckons, however, that that she would need a strong team to back her up when time comes for her to take this stride, noting; “Politics is a game of teams. It is a collective. It is not about you propelling yourself into power.”
The announcement comes on the backdrop of rumors that Mrs Byanyima was considering the top office at the World Bank, which she dispelled recently.
If her plans come to fruition, she will be the third female to make an attempt to the State House, after Miria Kalule Obote and Beti Namisango Kamya, Mareen Kyalya who tried without success in 2006 and 2011 and 2016.
Mrs Kamya has since joined the NRM government as a cabinet minister.
The world currently has 22 female heads of state, three of who are in Africa.
