The police have arrested one of their own commanders who was allegedly involved in the stealing of gold worth US 11,000 dollars.
Addressing journalists on Monday, the police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi said Wilber Wanyama, the Kampala North Regional CID was on Friday arrested and detained at Kireka over involvement in a gold scandal.
“Preliminary information we have is that one licensed mineral dealer boarded a bodaboda heading home,” Kaweesi said.
“On getting off the bodaboda, the rider took off with the bag of gold prompting the businessman to report the case to Old Kampala for follow up. ”
According to the police mouthpiece, the bodaboda rider was later arrested but he revealed the gold had been sold to Pakistanis for 11,000 US Dollars.
“The Pakistanis later returned the gold and the money was returned by the bodaboda rider but police played with it.”
He revealed, “Wanyama and the investigating officer got involved and exhibited fake money.”
Kaweesi noted that the investigating officer is however on the run.
