All bishops from the 34 dioceses in the province of the church of Uganda will tomorrow Saturday 12th November converge in Iganga to discuss pertinent issues in the province including the impasse in West Ankole Diocese.
The special sitting of the house of Bishops will precede the inauguration of central Busoga Diocese and consecration and enthronement of its pioneer Bishop Rev. Canon Patrick Wakula on Sunday.
The consecration function will take place at Bishop Willis primary teachers college; just adjacent to All Saint’s proposed Cathedral in Iganga.
Rev. Canon David Kaluya, the Diocesan secretary Busoga Diocese confirms saying, “it is true Bishops will on Saturday evening hold a private meeting to discuss pertinent issues in the church. That is the little I know since I am neither the archbishop nor a Bishop”
“I can only assure you that we have booked a hotel in Iganga where they will hold their meeting though I cannot divulge more about which hotel and what time” he added.
Meanwhile, Fred Kasiisa, the chairperson consecration and enthronement committee for Central Busoga Diocese said all is ready for the function to take place.
“We expect the president to grace the occasion,” he said.
He adds that on Thursday, they received the family of the Bishop elect into the Bishop’s palace before the Bishop elect headed for a retreat in Mityana where he is being counseled and guided by the Bishop of Mityana Diocese Dr Stephen Kazimba on the duties and responsibilities of his new appointment.
The Rev. Canon Patrick Wakula who on Sunday assumes the office of the Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese was on 24th August elected by the house bishops sitting in the sidelines of the 23rd provincial assembly of the province of the church of Uganda at Uganda Christian University Mukono, the 1st Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese.
The Diocese of Central Busoga is being carved out of Busoga Diocese and will have its headquarters in Iganga covering the political districts of Iganga, Kaliro, Luuka and Namutumba.
It has six archdeaconries of Iganga, Kiyunga, Kaliro, Namutumba, Buseesa and Ivukula.
Who is Venn Rev Wakula
Patrick Wakula Idibya was born on May 17, 1962 at Lugulu village, Bugobi parish, Bulange Sub County, current Namutumba district to late Yasooni wakula and Lovisa wakula who both served as head of laity
and chairperson mothers union respectively for over thirty years.
He holds, a bachelor’s degree in education from Makerere University obtained in 2004 and is a teacher of biology at PMM girls’ school in Jinja town.
He also attained a diploma in secondary education from Kyambogo institute of education 1999, a diploma in theology from Bishop Barham Divinity College Kabale 1995.
Prior to his new calling, Venn Wakula has been the archdeacon of Jinja archdeaconry since 2009, was the archdeacon of Kaliro archdeaconry between 2006 and 2008 was a parish priest of Mbulamuti in Kamuli archdeaconry 1995-2005.
He is the chairman of the diocesan mothers union, youth and children’s committee, secretary to the archdeacon’s forum, secretary diocesan recruitment committee, secretary diocesan ordination and retreat committee and secretary diocesan vetting committee.
He is also the vice chairman board of governors Bishop wills primary teachers college and chairman school management committee for Spire Road primary school.
“It was on 1st January 1990 that I committed my life fully to Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. Since then, I have never remained the same and I feel the Grace and unconditional love of God and joy for me continuously.
“Even though I have continued facing challenges and setbacks, because of trusting in His mighty name, I have also attained many achievements ranging from being a lesson reader and church cleaner in All Saints Church Wakisi Naminya parish to serving as priest in a number of parishes, Glory be to God,” Wakula summarized his testimony.
He acknowledges the great contribution of his mentor, late Rev Canon Patrick Kitakule who died in July this year and Rev Besweri Waiswa who baptized him for humility and diligence and retired Dean Rev Canon Daniel Kiiza for timely counsel.
He is married to Florence Nakakawa Wakula since July 1 1990 with whom they have six children namely; Lillian Nakitandwe, Dennis Wakula, Phionah Nakitandwe, Mary Mwebaza, Phoebe Kwagala, and Martha Wakula.
