A group of people of the Gungu community from the western Buliisa District led by the former Buliisa County Parliamentary candidate Godwin Angalia, have called upon President Museveni to appoint one of their own for any ministerial post.
The former Parliamentary candidate on Democratic Party (DP) ticket told Chimpreports on Monday that despite most of the Bagungu supporting President Museveni for the last thirty years, no single Mugungu has ever been given a ministerial post.
The Gungu people live on the northeastern shores of Lake Albert near the Nile, in the bottom of the Great Rift Valley where vast deposits of oil were discovered a few years ago.
“We are disadvantaged regardless of our loyalty to the current regime; we are around 130, 000 people most of whom are NRM carders and loyal to President Museveni but we are really marginalized,” said Angalia.
“For thirty years, our sons and daughters are not appointed into any ministerial post,” he said, adding that only when one of them makes it to cabinet will the natural resource (Oil) which was discovered in the area, benefit the community.
Angalia noted, “Since the recent cabinet still has some vacant ministerial positions, we appeal to the appointment authority to at least have a Mugungu fill one of the positions.”
“Among the vacant positions are the State Minister for Fisheries and State Minister for Works. We have bad roads and we are fishermen, let the president think of at least awarding us with one of those two.”
Angalia advised the President to look into the eminent members of the Bagungu community who are well educated with a reputable background, despite their political affiliations in case he is not comfortable with Buliisa representatives in Parliament.
