President Yoweri Museveni has attended the inaugural ceremony of Chadian President-elect, Idriss Deby Itno at a colorful function held at Grand Hotel, N’Djemena in Chad.
President Museveni who is on a two-day official visit to Chad on Monday joined over 14 heads of State and Governments including the Presidents of Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Republic of Guinea and Mali among others to witness the swearing in ceremony.
President Idriss’s swearing-in ceremony consisted of a 21 gun salute, taking of the oath and was later handed instruments of power to take on another term in office as the President of Republic of Chad.
President Idriss in his speech shortly after taking the oath, saluted his counterparts for coming to grace his inauguration ceremony saying that their coming demonstrates a close bond of brotherhood existing between respective countries and the people of Chad.
President Museveni later joined other Heads of State and Governments and various delegations to a luncheon hosted at the Hilton Hotel in N’Djemena by President Idriss Deby.
The Chadian strongman is serving his fifth term in office. His country is known for its military prowess.
When the Nigerian troops failed to stop Boko Haram terrorists, the Chadian army crossed into northeastern Nigerian town of Gambaru, giving a huge blow to the insurgents.
President Idriss attended President Museveni’s inauguration in Kampala in May this year.
