Four former Kabale Diocese nuns that had sued the Bishop of Kabale Rt. Rev. Fr. Callistus Rubaramira and five leaders of the association named Daughters of Our Lady Fatima for refusing to renew their vows, have withdrawn the case.
In 2015 the nuns Sister Judith Twinobusingye, Sister Lucia Kehoda, Sister Justine Naturinda and Sister Lucia Musimenta went to court after the Kabale Diocesan Council declined to renew their vows on grounds that they disobeyed their superiors.
The council claimed that the nuns often ignored their superiors’ orders and left the convent to go and attend their personal and family businesses.
The nuns were in May 2014 thrown out of the association and accompanied with prayers and Shs 800,000 each to help them start a new life, in letter signed by Sister Mary Mukanyangezi, the commissioner of Daughters of Our Lady Fatima.
In June last year the Kabale High Court Judge Michael Elubu advised the complaints and the respondents to try to settle this matter out of court.
The two sides eventually consented and the sisters agreed to drop the case against Bishop Rubaramira and Sister Mary.
“The parties have undertaken not to take any legal proceedings touching the subject matter of disputes or to use anything in relations to the dispute subject matter of suit in any fora whatsoever against other,” read part of the consent judgment.
