The Uganda Police Force has warned outspoken activist and Kampala businessman Frank Gashumba over his ‘one million walk’ plan to the home of Dr Kizza Besigye.
Gashumba last week said he was organizing one million people to ‘release’ Dr Besigye from detention at his Kasangati home.
“If they don’t heed our demands, we are going to mobilize a One-Million-Man match and where we shall match to remains our secret,” he told the press last week at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
Addressing journalists on Monday morning, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga warned that they will not allow any illegal match to Kasangati.
Enanga said organizers of the march must seek permission from police and this must be at least 15 days before the event.
“These are illegal activities that the public should desist from because they may hamper peace of other people. Public order is in the interest of all the people,” said Enanga.
“If they persist, the police have powers to lawfully disperse them for refusal to adhere to our warnings.”
Enanga warned the business community along Gayaza road to be vigilant and report suspected processions to law enforcement bodies.
