The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has announced that special prayers interceding for peace to prevail in the country during and after the forthcoming general elections will be held tomorrow Friday January 8 in all mosques across the country by the Muslim community.

This was communicated in a statement issued by Hajji Ramathan Mugalu, the Secretary-General of UMSC addressed to all Regional Khadies, District Khadies, Country Sheikhs and Imams.

The statement indicates that the Office of the Mufti has dedicated Friday this week for Muslims to beseech Allah‘s divine intervention for peaceful elections.

“Cognizant of the National motto ‘For God and my God’, the office of His Excellence the Mufti of Uganda has dedicated this Friday January 8, 2021, as the day when members of the Muslim community will offer special prayers to implore the Almighty Allah to grant the nation divine protection against all forms of violence,” the statement reads in part.

Mugalu has urged Muslims, especially youths, to desist from violence and all forms of provocative actions that may result into violent reactions, while expressing political opinions during the current heated election season.

This arrangement by the Muslims follows similar prayers held by Christians under the Joint Christian Council.

Uganda will hold elections for Presidential and Parliamentary elections on January 14, 2021.
