Police have released the Nakawa Division Member of Parliament Hon Michael Kabaziguruka after holding him for two days.
The MP was picked on Tuesday from his residence and detained at the SIU Headquarters in Kireka for undisclosed reasons.
Chimpreports understands that the legislator was freed on Thursday evening with no charges leveled against him.
The police spokesperson Fred Enanga had earlier revealed in statement that the reason for the arrest of Kabaziguruka were too sensitive to be publicized.
“The circumstances under which they were arrested are very sensitive, and although we cannot divulge any further details at this stage for fear of jeopardizing our investigations, we can only confirm to you that the suspects are helping us with investigations, into some very serious offences that involve other suspects as well,” said Enanga.
When reached after the release of the MP, Enanga said he had not yet received any information from Kireka and referred us to his Deputy Polly Namaye, who was unavailable.
Meanwhile the Nakawa MP declined to comment about his detention and how he was freed.
“I have just arrived home and I am exhausted. I need to first greet my children,” he said asking that we contact him in the morning.
Earlier today before his release, Police officers raided the residence Hon Kabaziguruka in Lake View village Luzira, and conducted a search.
The operation however, was conducted in the presence of a number of opposition politicians including the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who later revealed that police found nothing.
“It was obvious that the police were on a fishing expedition, in a futile attempt to link him to subversion. They have now whisked him back to SIU Kireka, without any formal charge being preferred against him,” said Lukwago.
The release of the MP, according to FDC officials followed the intervention of the Leader of Opposition Hon Winnie Kiiza.
