President Yoweri Museveni has today been awarded with the Military’s highest medal in recognition of his contribution to the pacification of Uganda though armed struggle.

The President, who was also the chief guest at this year’s Heroes Day cerebrations in Buikwe District, was handed the Order of Katonga medal by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe

The Order of Katonga is the highest military decoration of the Ugandan Honours System. It is awarded very rarely for extraordinary heroism

The order is named after the final and decisive battle of the National Resistance Army during the Ugandan Bush War. It was fought near the Katonga River.

Meanwhile at the same event, President Yoweri Museveni awarded slain former Libyan President Col Muammar Gadaffi posthumously with same award.

Gadaffi’s logistical and moral support of President Museveni’s armed struggle in the 1980s is highly regarded by the National Resistance Movement government, which captured power in 1986 and maintained it to date.

Museveni last decorated Gadaffi in April 2004 in Tripoli, honoring him for his contribution to the bush struggle that liberated Uganda from dictatorship, and also for being at the forefront of the liberation of Africa and unification of the continent.
