Independent Parliamentary and Local Government political aspirants, who lost in the recently concluded NRM primaries in Bududa district, on Thursday this week, boycotted the reconciliation meeting that had been convened by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to who also double as the second National Vice Chairperson of NRM.

The meeting was aimed at persuading these candidates to ‘Come back Home’ and rally behind the official candidates that had been endorsed by the party to contest for the Parliamentary Seats in the three constituencies of Manjiya, Lutseshe and Bushigai, the District Woman Mp and different positions at Local government.

12 out of the 19 candidates who are contesting in the four Constituencies of Bududa are independents. They include Agnes Khainza, NTV’s Agnes Nandutu and Esther Wetsetse, who are all challenging Justin Khainza on a Woman MP seat.

Others are; Hussein Matanda Kato, Jackson Matsanga in Manjiya County, Wilson Watila, Phillip Namukowa and Job Khatondi who are seeking to unseat NRM’s David Wakikona Wandendeya in Bushigai.

Lutsheshe County attracted four independent candidates; Godfrey Watenga Nabutanyi, Micheal Wekosesa, Moses Bikala Mukuwa and Wilson Nabwokye.

However, all the independent snubbed the meeting and gave no reason why.

Kadaga during the meeting noted that it was a good idea for those who lost in primaries to support the official party candidates, since it will create more unity.

“A lot did not go well during the primaries, but as the party, we need to come together and support those who lost so that we create more unity, togetherness and register massive victories,” she said

Meanwhile, NRM leaders who attended the meeting used this chance to present their petition to the Speaker, requesting for a new district and two municipalities.

The leaders told Kadaga that in bid to extend services to their people; more administrative units need to be added.

They proposed a new district Lutsethe to be made from Lutsethe County and upgrading of Manafwa and Sironko Town Councils to Municipality status.

The Bududa district Speaker, Geoffrey Natubu noted that the two Town Councils need to be upgraded to municipalities such that they can get more funding from the Central Government for infrastructure development, jobs creation and extending services near to people.

Charles Walimbwa Peke the Manafwa District NRM chairman wondered why the Ministry of Local Government has up to now failed to consider their request yet the 2010 – 2016 District Council passed a resolution of upgrading Manafwa Town Council to Municipality.

While addressing them, Speaker Kadaga urged the Council members to pass those municipalities and the district in their district Council.
