State Minister for Tourism Hon Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi has scoffed at opposition parties that keep accusing the ruling government of being dictatorial when they themselves cannot manage simple democratic exercises internally.
Kiwanda, who is also the NRM Chairperson for the central Region said most Ugandan opposition parties needed to borrow a leaf from the NRM on democracy.
The Minister was on Tuesday speaking to reporters at the offices of the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) in Kampala.
He pointed out that the recently concluded party primaries proved there is democracy in the NRM.
“Democracy is one of our core principles. Others talk about People Power but it’s just in slogan because they elect their flag bearers from their bedrooms. NRM is the practical People Power party,” the minister said.
Kiwanda went on to note that in his first term in parliament he was only 25 years of age but managed to defeat loaded politicians which on his side is another form of People Power
About the ongoing campaigns, Kiwanda promised that NRM will win most of the Parliamentary seats especially in the central region where opposition has fronted hundreds of contenders.
