Following the arrest of the 81 National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters for the illegal use of patented armed force uniform designs and their replicas, Uganda Police Force Spokesperson Fred Enanga has revealed that a number of celebrities have offered to surrender all the illegal attire pieces in their possession.
“These celebrities are commonly known and they have offered to collect these attires from their fellow musicians so that they can hand them over to police by the end of this week,” he said.
Addressing the press on Monday at Uganda Media Centre, Enanga revealed that Police is still on the operation to determine the source of these attires and that the manufacturers are the main target.
“These operations will still target mostly the manufacturers of these attires that look like army uniforms,” he said.
Enanga added that the same operations will be expanded upcountry.
“As we expand these operations upcountry, we call upon whoever is in possession of any attire that is similar to the ones we confiscated to please hand them over to the nearest police station,” he said.
He further cautioned families with retired members of police against misuse of the armed force uniforms.
“Families with retired members should ensure that these uniforms are not abused. Even those that have relatives that passed on, we want to caution them and advise that to bring back those uniforms,” he added.
