The opposition Democratic Party (DP) has said it is funding its candidates contesting for parliamentary seats by meeting the Shs 3million nomination fees to the Electoral Commission and printing their campaign posters.
The party spokesperson Okoler Opio Amanu said on Saturday that candidates who had already paid the 3 million shillings for nomination to the Electoral Commission should contact the party for reimbursement.
“We do invite all parliamentary candidates under sponsorship of the party that had already used personal finances to pay the 3 million shillings to the Electoral Commission as being the nomination fee before the party paid for others to contact the headquarters for reimbursement beginning Monday 19th October 2020. The candidates are therefore strongly advised to carry along with the receipts providing payment of the same,” he said.
“On the same note, we wish to inform all our nominated candidates that the party will print your posters. As such, you are required to arrange your campaign photos for submission to the party Secretariat as soon as possible,” Okoler added.
He announced that the National Publicity Secretary shall on Monday convene a meeting with professional designers and key stakeholders to discuss the quality and standard of designs to be used on the campaign posters is all DP sponsored candidates.
This, he said is intended to clearly map out the brand of DP which is “getting adulterated with foreign colors and paraphernalia.”
