Ndorwa county East Member of Parliament Wilfred Niwagaba has joined in the race for Deputy Speakership, to replace Jacob Oulanyah who is now going for the Speaker’s seat.

Niwagaba told Chimpreports yesterday that he took the decision to give another shot at the seat, having lost in 2011 to the incumbent Jacob Oulanyah.

The loss in 2011 he said “lost him some dignity” and that now he was determined to redeem himself.

As Deputy Speaker, Niwagaba says he wants to return the house to the true tenets of the multiparty dispensation, having been “derailed to serve individuals’ interests.”

Niwagaba won back his seat on an independent ticket, following a disagreement with the ruling NRM party that culminated in his dismissal together with three others from the party.

Niwagaba, Theodore Ssekikubo(Lwemiyaga), Mohammed Nsereko (Kampala central)  and Barnabasa Tinkasiimire(Buyaga) were ejected from the NRM over indiscipline.

A few other NRM MPs are so far rumored to be eying the deputy speaker’s seat and they include the party Caucus Spokesman, Denis Hamson Obua and Raphael Magyezi the MP for Igara County West in Bushenyi district.
