Police in Mbarara has in detention two men who were found in illegal possession of elephant tusks, which they are believed to have obtained from neighboring Tanzania.

The two were arrested on May 29th 2016 in Kaberebere town council, Isingiro district with two pieces of ivory.

The suspects are Vereriano Buhamizo 36, an electrician from Endinzi, Bukanga Isingiro and Sadik China 38, a motor driver from Bugango, Isingiro.

The Mbarara OCCID Taban Chiringa said the court file was forwarded to the directorate of public prosecution who advised police to transfer the file to Isingiro police station since the suspects are residents of Isingiro and were arrested from Isingiro not Mbarara.

Taban told journalists that other accomplices in this crime are still on the run and are being hunted.

He appealed the residents in Isingiro district to alert police when they detect any one selling or possessing any animal products from the national park.

The 2 will be charged of unlawful utilization of wild life and wild life products without a grant of wild life user right according to section 29(1) (c) (f) 30 and 74 of the Uganda Wild life Act.

The case is registered at Mbarara police station under CRB 13/25/2016.
