The Ministry of Health has on Saturday confirmed 16 new COVID-19 cases from 5,133 samples tested on Friday bringing the total number of infections in the country to 927.
“Results from COVID-19 tests done on July 3, 2020 confirm 16 new COVID-19 cases. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandan is 927,” the Ministry announced.
The new cases include 11 truck drivers from points of entry and 5 contacts to previously confirmed cases.
Of the 11 truck drivers from points of entry, 9 arrived via Malaba border point, 1 from Kerwa point of entry in Yumbe district and 1 arrived via Elegu border.
Of the 5 cases of contacts to previously confirmed cases, 4 are from Amuru and 1 from Namisindwa district.
Meanwhile, a total of 42 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 were denied entry into Uganda as per the presidential directive.
The new confirmed cases have inflated the number of active cases on admission to 205 and they include 173 Ugandans, 25 foreigners and 7 refugees.
The total number of COVID-19 recoveries has also increased to 868 but these include both Ugandans and foreigners.
A total of 2,993 samples from points of entry were tested for COVID-19 on Friday while 2,140 were among contacts to previously confirmed cases.
A total of 5,133 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Friday.
Currently, Uganda has a total of 927 COVID-19 cumulative confirmed cases, 205 are active on admission, 868 recoveries and no fatalities.
