A group of youths under the Alternative Movement, formerly known as the Jobless Brotherhood have dragged two police officers and the Attorney General to a court in Mukono for violation of their rights.
The youths sued the officers before Mukono High Court’s Justice Margret Mutonyi, over what they called abuses that the suffered as they were being arrested on the 18th September over the age limit demonstrations.
The complainants include Abel Muchunguzi, Johab Agaba, Edris Mutebi, Eria Musoke, Bashil Mubiru among others.
These sued police officers Brain Nyehangane, the OC Naggalama Police Station and Alfred Ndungutse, attached to CPS Kampala as well as the Attorney General, who represents government entities.
The youths through their lawyers Aaron Kizza told Justice Mutonyi that ten of them were brutally arrested by the officers and held beyond the recommended 48 hours in police custody.
Bichachi Ojambo from the Attorney General’s office asked court to give him a few days to file their defence.
Justice Mutonyi adjourned the matter to Friday 13th of this month so that the two police officers may be served with court sermons as individuals.
She added that the two police officers will be charged as individuals and not as a police institution as per the Constitutional Court ruling in 2015.
