Kampalans Thursday afternoon were treated briefly to the noises of fighter jets hovering over the city, raising anxiety as a standoff carries on between police and opposition FDC supporters.

The fighter jets are believed to be rehearsing for next week May 12th swearing in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni who was declared winner of last February’s presidential elections.

The army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda would not comment on what the exercise was about as he rejected our repeated phone calls.

These noisy jets were last deployed in Soroti district in eastern Uganda last year, when Hon Amama Mbabazi, then an aspiring presidential candidate set out to hold a consultative meeting with the locals there, against the wish of government.

In Kampala the planes were last seen while they drilled ahead of the 2012 Golden Jubilee independence Celebrations.
