Uganda cranes skipper Dennis Onyango has castigated Mandela National stadium for the poor state of the playing surface as Uganda played out a goalless draw against Ghana on Saturday in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Onyango did not have kind words after the game indicating the stadium was not fit enough to host a game of such stature.

“It is a shame that we play a game of such magnitude at such a poor surface.  I think we do not value sports as an industry in Uganda,” he said.

“The pitch did not favor either Uganda or our opponents Ghana because it was almost unplayable,” a furious Onyango added.

He further compared the state of the pitch to a village playing ground and thus indicated was one of the reasons why Uganda failed to collect maximum points.

Uganda’s hopes of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup suffered a huge blow after a barren stalemate with Ghana putting Egypt who play Congo Brazaville in pole position.

A win for Egypt on Sunday will see them qualify for the World cup for the first time since 1990.
